3/9/2020 San Francisco Bay Fishing Report- Oyster Point

Saturday marked the unofficial start of the Halibut season in San Francisco Bay. With an average of 1 keeper halibut per rod charters and private boaters are excited about the season to come. The South Bay on Saturday was the hot spot with fish from the bird cage to Candlestick Point. Trolling herring behind a dodger seems to work best bet right now. Sunday slowed quite a bit with the pressure changing and Saturdays rain. The tidal coefficient is high for the next few days which can also impact catch rates of halibut.

Striped Bass are also around but tend to be on the schoolie size or smaller. Find bait and there is a good chance a school of striped bass are hanging around. bucktail jigs will always produce along and many are being caught trolling for Halibut.

3/9/20 Oyster Point Fishing Conditions

Fishing conditions at Oyster Point are ideal today. The tidal coefficient is 110 which is very high meaning that the current will be very strong. This tends to hurt halibut fishing but improves sturgeon fishing. Wind is not expected to pick up until the afternoon.

2/18/20 Oyster Point Halibut Fishing Report

Decided to do an early season scout on the Halibut in SF Bay. Although it would be great to catch Halibut this time of year the main purpose of out trip was to get improve our fishing techniques and work out the kinks on the new boat before the the halibut move in bigger numbers during March and April.

We launched Oyster Point around 8am at the start of the outgoing tide. Trolled crippled herring with a hoochie and flasher. Moved from Oyster Point to candlestick park between the 12 and 25th along the channel. Had one good fish on but popped soon after I got the rod in hand. Conditions were ideal and although we didn’t land a keeper Halibut there are signs of life. Looking forward to next trip around mid march. Saw some good looking marks on the FF. Sturgeon?? Striper?
